At the announcement ceremony, Mr. Do Duc Dung, Director of the Southern Institute of Water Resources Planning, proudly looked back at the 45 years of building and developing the Institute. On September 20, 1977, SIWRP was established by the Ministry of Irrigation as the Southern Irrigation Planning Survey Sub-Institute under the Institute of Irrigation Planning and Water Management.
Since the early days of liberation, SIWRP has focused on researching regional and river basin irrigation plans in the Mekong Delta and Southeast regions, recognized and highly appreciated by the Government, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as well as localities. Thanks to that result, on December 26, 2005, the Government signed a Decision to upgrade the Southern Irrigation Planning Survey Sub-Institute into the Southern Institute of Water Resources Planning, directly under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Cooperating with SIWRP includes experts with extensive experience who have worked and researched for many years in the region as well as from universities in the southern region such as: Dr. To Van Truong, Planning expert, current Director of the Southern Institute of Water Resources Planning, Associate Professor, Dr. Trinh Cong Van, irrigation expert; MSc Nguyen Ngoc Anh, irrigation planning expert, current SIWRP Institute member; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Kim Loi, lecturer at Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry; Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Van Nghi, irrigation expert, senior lecturer, Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Sciences; Dr. Nguyen Dinh Vuong, irrigation expert; Dr. Le Ngoc Anh, irrigation expert, lecturer at Van Lang University; Dr. Tran Duc Dung, irrigation expert, researcher at Nanyang Technical University, Singapore.

At the same time, strengthens the capacity of human resources for research in consulting activities, and contributes to the management and development of irrigation and water resources in the southern region.

Mr. Do Duc Dung, Director of SIWRP said: This cooperation has very important and strategic significance for the Institute's activities to find strategic, long-term solutions and solve difficult real-life problems.
Besides, it will also create favourable conditions for the Institute to proactively cooperate with experts to support and advise on new solutions and advanced technology in irrigation resource management; develop sustainable irrigation plans to adapt to climate change; Build an irrigation information system for management and monitor water sources and environmental data; human resource training, support for linkages and cooperation with international organizations and foreign partners to exchange experiences and finance development...

The Institute's collective and leaders of agencies under the Ministry presented flowers to the experts.
“In the coming time, SIWRP will gradually develop into the leading irrigation planning consulting unit in the Southern region, applying advanced technology, providing diverse and high-quality products, meeting society's increasing demands for water sector services, contributing to the development of science and technology in the irrigation industry and affirming the position of Vietnam's irrigation science and technology in the region and the world", said Mr Do Duc Dung, Director of SIWRP.
To protect the water source in the irrigation system, Da Do Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Company Limited (Da Do Company) has many drastic measures and implementations, but the quality of water sources is still getting worse and worse due to limited funding, discharge status, climate change and saline intrusion.
Da Do Company has also mobilized people to join hands to clear 105 ha of ponds, farms in the riverbed, 2,000 m2 of houses and structures, and over 300,000 trees within the scope of the project. Simultaneously, embankment 60/90km on both sides of Da Do, renovate and upgrade 40/140 sluices on shore and renovate and dredge nearly 100km of grade 1 canals, upgrade over 50 works on the canal. On the other hand, 1,538 landmarks have been planted to mark the corridors to protect works and protect water sources on the Da Do River.
