Organizing Shrimp Festival Ca Mau at the end of 2023

(VAN) After 4 years of delay due to Covid-19, Shrimp Festival Ca Mau is expected to take place during December 13 - 16 this year.

Shrimp Festival Ca Mau and a connection forum for OCOP products in the Mekong Delta are scheduled to take place from December 13 to 16, 2023.

The People's Committee of Ca Mau province and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will direct the organizing of this event. The Steering Committee, the Organizing Committee of the festival and sub-committees, departments, branches and relevant units shall be the ones who do the specific work.

In a meeting with the implementation and coordination units on June 28, Mr. Le Van Su, Vice Chairman of Ca Mau People's Committee said, “The first Shrimp Festival Ca Mau will be integrated with the OCOP Product Connection Forum in order to create a great impression of the characteristics, potential and strengths of OCOP products, promote agricultural and rural tourism associated with the culture of the Mekong Delta in general and Ca Mau in particular”.

Shrimp Festival Ca Mau was directed by the Prime Minister in Official Letter No. 2890/VPCP-NN dated March 27, 2017, Official Letter No. 7508/VPCP-NN dated July 18, 2017 and Official Letter No. 1526 /VPCP-NN on February 12, 2018.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister assigned the People's Committee of Ca Mau province to actively work with the ministries, branches and localities on the contents related to the organization of the festival, ensuring to follow the authority, efficiency and financial conditions. However, due to a variety of reasons specifically having to cope with the pandemic situation of Covid-19, it was not until now that Ca Mau province was eligible to organize this important event.

Aquatic product is one of the key economic sectors of Ca Mau province. 

It is within expectations that Shrimp Festival Ca Mau 2023 and OCOP Product Connection Forum in the Mekong Delta will attract about 8,000 - 10,000 visitors.

Within the framework of the event, there will be many activities such as exhibition and trade space with 500 booths of units participating in display and product introduction. Forums, seminars, conferences are thematic. A contest and Ca Mau Food Day will also be held, not to mention tourism connection activities and model visits in some localities around the province.

Ca Mau is among the top in the country in terms of fishery product output as well as capacity in exploitation, farming, processing technology and export.

According to Ca Mau Statistical Office, the province’s total fishery product output in the first 5 months of 2023 was estimated at over 266 thousand tons, an increase of over 4% over the same period last year. The output of exploited aquatic products is estimated at 98 thousand tons, up 1.24% over the same period. Aquaculture production is estimated at more than 168 thousand tons, up more than 5.8% over the same period.
